“Out of seven lakh admissions, only 2000 people were wrongfully admitted and 31 people died. There’s no regret on the Vyapam scam,” Nand Kumar Chauhan said.
He also said that chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will come out unscathed in the Vyapam probe as he is “as holy as the river Ganga” and the CBI investigation would prove this.
“The Chief Minister is as holy as the river Ganga and the CBI probe will prove it. All attempts of the Congress to defame Chouhan will ultimately lead to its further downfall in the state,” the Madhya Pradesh BJP president said.
Criticising the Congress for politicising the deaths of those linked to the Vyapam scam, the BJP leader said, “The Congress is making a mountain out of a molehill as 15 deaths took place before the special task force (STF) was constituted on July 7, 2013″.
He said that besides these deaths, 16 more people have died and among them, a few died due to accidents, while some suffered heart attacks or due to other reasons.
The Supreme Court had ordered a CBI probe into the massive admission and recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh on July 9.
The top court’s order transferring all Vyapam-related cases to the CBI came after the MP government gave its consent to transfer investigation from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Special Task Force (STF) to the CBI.
The Vyapam scam is named for a state board that conducts qualifying tests for colleges and jobs as government teachers, doctors and policemen. Lakhs of candidates paid bribes to manipulate the exam process, including hiring proxies to take the test for them.
