Vasundhara Raje Meets BJP Chief Amit Shah, Shivraj Singh Chouhan May Meet Him Too

New Delhi:  Two days before the Monsoon session of Parliament begins, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje is meeting party president Amit Shah in Delhi. The meeting, in progress at Mr Shah’s Delhi home, is also being attended by key party leaders from Rajasthan, sources told NDTV.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan — who is battling charges of involvement of his key leaders and ministers in the Vyapam scam — is also likely to meet Mr Shah later today, sources said.

The Parliament session beginning on Tuesday is expected to be stormy as the opposition, led by the Congress, appeared to have closed ranks to corner the government over a range of issues — including the Vyapam scam and the Lalit Modi controversy.

The Congress has warned that unless Ms Raje is removed, it will not allow Parliament to function. The party has so far backed Ms Raje, who had supported tainted cricket tycoon Lalit Modi’s immigration appeal to the UK.

The Congress has also claimed Ms Raje had business links with Mr Modi, and that she has been a direct beneficiary of Lalit Modi’s Rs. 13-crore investment in a firm owned by her son.

While the BJP-led NDA commands an absolute majority in Lok Sabha, it lacks numbers in the Upper House, where the Congress is the largest party and holds the key to the passage of several crucial legislations, including the Goods and Services Tax bill and the land bill.
