Bajrangi Bhaijaan Nets Rs 500 Crore; Eros Shares Surge 60% This Year
Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now the biggest Bollywood grosser of this year
Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan is on a record-breaking spree. Bajrangi Bhaijaan has become fastest Bollywood film to gross Rs 500 crore worldwide, its global distributor Eros International said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
At the domestic box office, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has crossed the Rs 300 crore, Eros added. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now Bollywood’s highest grosser of 2015.
Released on July 17, Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a roaring start at the box office, breaking many records on its way. Bajrangi Bhaijaan crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in the opening weekend itself, a record for Bollywood movie. It crossed the Rs 150 crore milestone in just five days, also setting a new record.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan also scored the highest single day collection with a net of Rs. 38.75 crore on Day 3 (19th July).
Bajrangi Bhaijaan has also performed strongly at overseas box office. In the UAE, it became the highest grossing Hindi film. In the UK, it broke into the broke into top 10 charts.
Nandu Ahuja, senior vice president at Eros international, said, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan has created box office history. Record continue to be shattered as there is no stopping the film.”
Directed by Kabir Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was produced by Salman Khan and Rockone Venkatesh.
At 9:32 a.m., Eros International shares were down 1 per cent at Rs 579.30 as compared to a flat Nifty.
But on a year-to-basis, the Eros has strongly outperformed the markets, rising close to 60 per cent.
Other successes from the Eros stable this year include Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and NH10.
Shares of India’s biggest multiplex operator PVR have also outperformed the markets. The management of PVR has attributed the June quarter stronger earnings to rising footfalls and good flow of content.
