Bengaluru 3-Year-Old Assaulted at School, Guard Detained

Bengaluru:  A three-year-old in Bengaluru has been taken to hospital after she was allegedly assaulted at her school. A guard who had been working with the school for two years has been detained and questioned after he was identified by the child and her sister, who studies at the same school; the police said the guard will be arrested soon.

Medical tests have been conducted to determine whether the child was sexually attacked by the guard, who is from Kolkata.

A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences or POCSO Act.



 



The private school is located in the Indira Nagar area of the city.  There were protests by some parents this morning at the school, which remained open.  

Last year, Bangalore reported  a series of cases of young girls being sexually assaulted in their schools, triggering a national debate on safety guidelines.

The police says that in this case, the school had working CCTVs, mandated as part of the new safety rules. The investigation is looking at whether other guidelines were followed, and if the guard’s record and background had been verified by school officials with the police.
