The 75-year-old politician has said his party will disrupt Parliament today over the caste census that it wants to discuss. The Samajwadi Party had moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha today seeking to put aside regular House business for a debate on the caste census.
The party joined Lalu Prasad’s RJD in raising slogans against the government in the Lok Sabha this morning.
On Monday, Mulayam Singh, whose party is an important constituent of the opposition, split its ranks by warning the Congress, “Enough is enough… We will not back you if you keep protesting.” The Congress has disrupted Parliament for the entire monsoon session over its demand for the removal of three top BJP leaders caught in controversies.
At a meeting of BJP lawmakers this morning, PM Modi had “thanked Mulayam Singh and other parties who felt it is a conspiracy that development is being stalled,” said minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
Mr Rudy said after the meeting of the BJP parliamentary party, “Today, the Prime Minister said he feels the end of the session shows that there are some people who are using Parliament to stop growth and development,” a reference to the Congress.
