Shatrugan Sinha Expresses Support for Congress. BJP, Your Move.

New Delhi:  Shatrugan Sinha, who has been courting trouble with persistent regularity with his party, has today delivered new criticism of the BJP. Mr Sinha, a former actor who represents Patna in parliament, has opposed the suspension of 25 Congress Lok Saba members, who have been banned for five days from proceedings on account of raucous protests. The Congress has declared the ban on its members as “the murder of democracy”. Mr Sinha, denouncing the suspension, tweeted “Good sense must prevail”, advice that is certain to irk the BJP.

Mr Sinha has also via Twitter delivered the latest instalment of his bromance with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Their recent meetings and praise for each other – publicly and enthusiastically disclosed – have been irritants for the BJP at a time when it hopes to deprive Mr Kumar of a third consecutive term in office in the election which starts in September. Mr Sinha today cautioned, “This exchange need not cause concern, alarm or jealously among our people…political opponents are not enemies..we can differ in political views but there can be no personal enmity.”

That prescriptive is unlikely to impart any succour. Last week, Mr Sinha deviated from the BJP to join a group of politicians and eminent citizens who petitioned President Pranab Mukherjeee against the hanging of Yakub Memon, convicted for his role in the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993 in which 257 people were killed.

Mr Sinha recently said, “Can’t say what will happen tomorrow, will I be thrown out (of the party), will I leave, I can’t say.”
