That’s the place according to a local whistle-blower, bodies of two men were buried around 15 years ago by a mining baron in the region after offering them as human sacrifice.
The skeletons were exhumed after an employee of mining mogul PR Palainisamy mentioned them to senior bureaucrat U Sayagam, who is leading an inquiry into tax and other violations by the powerful granite lobby in the region.
A police case has been registered over the bodies found with Mr Palanisamy listed as the main accused. His company, PRP Granites, has denied any wrongdoing.
The bones that were found have been sent for forensic tests.
Mr Sayagam estimates that illegal mining and tax evasion by the mining lobby in Madurai may have cost the government 16,000 crores over the last 10 years.
