Travelling like an aam aadmi, PM Modi shelved his plans to take a chopper, and boarded a Metro train from Janpath in the heart of Delhi to Faridabad in neighbouring Haryana.
The PM was initially expected to take a helicopter to the Civil Court Grounds in Faridabad, where he was to flag-off the Delhi-Faridabad Metro Link.
In what is fast becoming a hallmark of PM Modi, it seems he took a spontaneous decision to get a first-hand experience of the Metro services to Faridabad.
While most commuters on the Metro were completely surprised, several managed to overcome their initial excitement and posed with the PM for selfies.
The Delhi-Faridabad line will be thrown open to the public at 4 pm today. Nine stations have been built along the track which extends almost 14 kilometres into Faridabad.
More than 2 lakh people are expected to travel on the route daily. Faridabad, which has a population of 18 lakhs, has lagged behind Gurgaon and other Haryana cities in development. The state government has pinned high hopes on the metro for Faridabad’s revival.
