Sheena Bora Case: Was Asked By Senior Not to File Case, Says Cop

Sheena Bora was murdered allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea

Mumbai:  A police inspector has revealed that he was stopped from filing a First Information Report by his senior when Sheena Bora’s body was found in the forests of Raigad near Mumbai three years ago.

Sources say police inspector Subhash Mirge has claimed that he was asked not to file an FIR by RD Shinde, the officer who was Superintendent of Police, Raigad, at the time.

The inspector’s statement was recorded as part of an inquiry into lapses by the police when Sheena Bora’s body was found in 2012. Mr Mirge is currently posted in Pune but was in Raigad then.

Sheena Bora, 24, was killed allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, step-father Sanjeev Khanna, and a driver inside a car in April 2012, in Mumbai.

Her body was allegedly kept overnight in the home of Indrani Mukerjea’s husband, TV tycoon Peter Mukerjea, before being taken to the forests of Raigad, 80 km from Mumbai, and burnt.

The remains were found a month later by villagers, who alerted the local police.

The police, however, marked it as an unclaimed body and buried it.

The Mumbai police claims that they have found the bones of Sheena Bora from the spot, and the DNA matches with that of Ms Mukerjea.

The police in Mumbai are investigating whether their colleagues in Raigad are guilty of negligence in conducting a proper forensic examination and chasing clues that could have uncovered the murder earlier.

The inquiry report has been submitted to Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal.

RD Shinde has said he will clarify his position before the inquiry.
