Mr Bharti has been missing since Tuesday, when the Delhi High Court rejected his petition for protection from arrest. He has moved the Supreme Court, which will take up his plea only on Monday.
The former Delhi Law Minister, who is also a lawyer, has been accused by his wife Lipika Mitra of attempted murder, domestic violence and torture. Refusing to grant him anticipatory bail, the High Court said he had a history of “violent and outrageous behavior” at home and in public.
The police, hunting him since the court order, say he is behaving like a professional criminal, constantly changing his phones and his location.
The AAP lawmaker was last believed to be in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. He is now moving between Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, say the police, based on mobile phone signals. A group of four or five men are always with him; the police say they all have a criminal past.
Mr Bharti has been using different mobile phones, say police sources. The trail began from east Delhi on Wednesday evening. This morning, his mobile phone was found active near Haryana.
He may be in hiding but he is all over social media.
“Laut Aao Somu (Come back Somu)” was among the trending topics on twitter this morning.
An ex-law minister is running away from the law. This is new/clean politics. #लौट_आओ_सोमू

The hash tag was used to take digs at both Mr Bharti and his party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who urged him to surrender in a sharp tweet on Tuesday which said that the lawmaker had become an embarrassment to the party and his family.
