The tremors, which lasted nearly a minute, came shortly after an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale struck about 200 kilometres off Japan’s coast in the Pacific Ocean.
In Tokyo, buildings shook for around a minute and set off car alarms. The earthquake was reportedly at a depth of 696 kilometres.
No tsunami warning was immediately issued.
